A Romance, Valeries Reading group book. Matt is a blockcutter artist, and Lorna a middle class girl falls for him. They live in a cottage in Somerset. he goes to war and is killed. Molly grows up and has Ruth. Ruth gets a letter about some of Matts woodcarving and returns to the cottage in Somerset to get them, and then there is a possibility of romance with the occupant. The story goes through the generations andshows what life was like for each, How Lorna married Jack's best friend and had Simon, How Molly had Ruth by a rich man, benefactor to the library where she worked, Ruth had two children by Peter who was busy in finance and they split up....
